The property at Via Ginevra 2 in Lugano, consisting of a main building dating back to the early 1900s and a secondary extension built in 1996, was the subject of a renovation project involving the roof of the annexe, which is used as a terrace.
The work involved the complete renovation of the terrace, whose deterioration had caused infiltration of water into the rooms below.
The existing waterproofing and insulation layer was removed, and a new, energy-efficient roof with new functional and aesthetic qualities were installed.
The size of the terrace remains the same, and it is covered with new grey ceramic tiles and surrounded by a steel parapet in the same anthracite grey colour as the frames of the original building. Between the perimeter and the parapet, an extensive green area was created and enriched with flowers and small autochthonous bushes to promote biodiversity.
A new pergola has been installed in the northern part of the terrace to support the growth of climbing plants and provide shade for office users during the warmer seasons. The climbing plants, planted in concrete flower pots, contribute to biodiversity while also limiting the impact of summer heatwaves.
