Collective Housing Goldacker, Zürich

The continuity of the open spaces, the deep visual relations across the site and the immediate presence of the original topography characterize the spatial identity of the area. The project aims to maintain and strengthen these qualities despite the required densification. The intervention strategy consists of replacing the existing buildings with punctual and compact volumes arranged in the same position as the previous ones. The project has an open structure, in which the same typology is repeated several times with minimal variations, in analogy with the existing residential complex. In this way, the area remains open and permeable, linking the Uetliberg hill to the city. The kitchen is intended as the spatial and social centre of the units and stretches into the loggia. Flexibility is understood as the possibility of using spaces in different ways, adapting to scenarios that may occur over time. The displaced contours of the buildings and the "chequered" arrangement of the volumes reinforce the connection of the external spaces along the slope, reinforcing the diagonal visual axes.
